Layered paper relief art

The arts have been a part of my life since I was a kid painting my face with ground up rocks from a Brown County stream. Living in the Nashville area for 30 of my 63 years has only served to enhance my enchantment with lying the life of an artist. I graduated from Indiana University in 1976 with a Bachelors degree in Studio Art and later received a Masters in Curriculum & Instruction from Indiana Wesleyan University. In the early '80's I taught art at a private intermediate school in Huston, Texas. After moving back to Brown County, I began teaching art to elementary school students in the Brown County School Corporation, a love that continued for 23 years. I am currently retired. My husband and I travel often and we have four fantastic adult children.

I have exhibited in the Hoosier Heritage Art shows. One year I was granted an honorable mention for a watercolor and awarded $1000. I have have exhibited at the Brown County Crafts Guild. Recently I donated a piece of art work which is currently hanging in the Brown County Health and Living Center.

I work with a product called Color-Aid paper. It is a non-fading paper which has been silk-screened in a variety of colors. For me, creating a bas-relief with paper adds just enough dimension to make it more exciting. My first step is a drawing which is often cut out to make the pattern pieces. All the pieced are either hand cut with an exacto knife, curled or torn from the paper and then gluded into the final composition. Paper tearing seems to lend itself to organic lines which I find to be intriguing. Framing is essential.
